I have slowly been trying to collect the entire series and decided to add this unit right before Christmas. The unit itself is somewhat wobbly and I can almost guarantee it will break if a child tries to play with it.PROS* The AT-ST is fairly big and detailed. I have been a BIG Star Wars fan my entire life so I'm trying not to be biased with this review. I have it displayed on my desk at home and it looks great. For anyone that is thinking about getting this for a child. It would've been nice if it did come with one, maybe Chewy or an Ewok to mimic 'Return of the Jedi' when they took over this unit during the forest battle.CONCLUSION* If you are a LEGO or a Star Wars fan, I would highly recommend getting this. I just built this thing last week with my wife (yes, we are uber nerds hehe) and it took us about 2-3 hours to complete this AT-ST. If you are looking to get this for a child so they can play with it after it has been completed, look somewhere else.
The barrel on the mini-gun also spins, which is pretty cool.* Looks great after it has been completed. This AT-ST is part of the LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collectors Series. The guns on the side of the head can rotate both clockwise and counter-clockwise. I thought the instructions were easy to follow and pretty straight-forward. this AT-ST is not meant to be played with, it is meant to be displayed. Great addition to any LEGO Star Wars collection.CONS* I'm not sure why Amazon says it comes with a mini-figure in the description, but it doesn't. But if you are looking to get this for a child to play with, I would consider getting something else.
As others have written, this is a great collector item, but not suitable as a toy. I'd recommend Battle of Endor for a a walker as a toy.
It took me days to figure out. He has put together numerous 1000+ lego sets on his own including the sandcrawler & general grevious. I bought this for my 9-year-old son who loves legos and is extremely good at them. Even when it is in correctly it falls apart easily. Of all his lego sets, this is the one that he has needed help. Its very difficult to understand how to get the sides into the pins. This is not a set you can play with or even touch as the whole thing just crumbles. However, it is very cool looking once built as a display piece and my son loves having it in his room.
I thouroughly enjoyed put this model together. It is a very good looking model but fragile. Great fun.
It is more of a collectors item though, I'll warn you. I've always been a LEGO lover at heart. The AT-ST is another fine LEGO set in the Star Wars line. If your buying this for your 8 year old son, don't. Not that it is fragile, but it is certainly not as durable as some of their sets.I have it up in my office displayed.
